About the
Kershaw Community Park Council
The Kershaw Community Park Council (KCPC) organized in 2008 as a community group whose goal was to make Kershaw, SC's Stevens Park, "the place to be" for kids and families. The group became an official non-profit organization in 2010 and developed a Master Plan to overhaul the park.
In the last decade, the board of directors, volunteers and donors are responsible for a number of wonderful additions to the park. Read about them in the "About the Park" section below.
The KCPC also organizes Singing in the Park, Family Fun Day in the Park, Nature & Art Day in the Park, Lights in the Park and other family fun days throughout the year. These events bring awareness to the park and provide entertainment and education to the community.
In 2018, the KCPC led the way to building a new and improved "destination" playground! Welsh's Station Playground was completed in April of 2019, with help from grants, donations, fundraisers, and many volunteers. The playground is busy everyday and because of the unique design, it never gets old to the kids.
Currently, the KCPC is focused on the extension and upgrades of the walking trails leading to the heart of the park, and the development of more environmental education opportunities within the park's natural areas. We are eager to provide more "nature learning" in this beautiful outdoor natural environment.
About the Park
Visitors to Stevens Park are always impressed - and often jealous - that our small town has such a wonderful park. Once intended for Springs Mill employees' families to enjoy, the park now draws in many visitors from outside our community. The natural landscaping is home to a spring fed stream and wildlife, including pileated woodpeckers. The plant life is varied and abundant, including numerous species of indigenous plants. The changing seasons make the park seem new every day! The KCPC is very proud of this park and hope you will consider visiting soon. We appreciate you joining us in our efforts to update and maintain Stevens Park.

We have been fortunate to have a partnership with the Town of Kershaw and the support of the community; individuals, businesses, and foundations that have embraced our vision for this beautiful park. We are continuously fundraising to develop and revitalize Stevens Park, through the Give Local Lancaster campaign, and our ongoing sale of memorial bricks, park t-shirts, fence pickets and original watercolor park note cards. Walking Trails & Education Boards
There are marked walking trails running in and around Stevens park. Improvements on the trail are underway and will make our 1-mile hiking trail more easily accessible and well-marked. Additionally, a widened access path enables elderly and handicapped individuals to be able to take advantage of the programs that are offered in the amphitheater. These paths are also accessible to golf carts.
Along the trails, there are several Education Boards that were donated by Duke Energy in and around the walking trails in Stevens Park. These boards highlight various flora and fauna within the park.
Welsh's Station Playground
"Welsh's Station" is the name selected by the community for the new playground completed in 2019. The J. Marion Sims Foundation (now the Arras Foundation) earned the naming rights by making the largest contribution to the park building fund. They used the Community Heart and Soul initiative to allow the residents to choose the new name. "Welsh's Station" pays homage to Kershaw's original name.
This uniquely designed playground reflects the history of Kershaw. Children can visit Haile Gold Mine, Welsh's Station, Springs Mill, The Center Theater, Kershaw High School, Kershaw Mercantile, Thomas Drug Store, and Brewer Clinic within the playground's borders. They can also enjoy the train and the firetruck which represent the railroad's role in Kershaw's history, and the great volunteer firemen who have served Kershaw for over 100 years.

Lancaster County Council of the Arts - Paws on Parade
Paws on Parade is a public art tourism project that looks to place creatively designed fiberglass dogs and cats into your favorite parts of Lancaster County. This creative tourism project allows the Lancaster County Council of the Arts to celebrate and promote the artistic talents in our community as well as drive visitors to special locations all over our county.
Come out and meet Patches who found his 'forever home' at Stevens Park! You won't be able to miss him as he is brightly colored and found in front of Welsh's Station Playground.

Kershaw Skate Park
Skateboarding enthusiasts drive for many miles to enjoy one of the largest skate parks in South Carolina. Located between the community center and the community swimming pool, the park boasts an original sculpture from Waxhaw artist and skateboarder, Tom Risser.
Outdoor Classroom
The Outdoor Classroom blends in beautifully to the natural landscape surrounding it in the heart of the park. With amphitheater-style seating, it provides a wonderful venue for music performances, movies, weddings, environmental programs, and more.

Community Center
Marion Boan Community Center is a host to the Sparetime Grill which is leased to various restaurateurs. Additionally, party rooms are available for special occasions, business meetings or reunions. The Lancaster Council Council on Aging operates out of a newly renovated kitchen to provide Meals on Wheels for area seniors.

Kershaw Bowling Alley
One of the hidden treasures of Stevens Park is a 6-lane bowling alley located inside the Marion Boan Community Center. The Bowling Alley is home to league bowling and also a great place to spend an afternoon or evening of fun with friends and family.

Community Swimming Pool
During the summer Stevens Park Swimming Pool is home to the Stingrays Swim Team and also open to the public annually from May to August.

"Winding its way around and through Stevens Park is a Kershaw treasure: a mile-long hiking trail waiting to be explored. There are enough hills to get the heart pumping and enough flat terrain to give walkers the opportunity to appreciate nature's beauty and quiet. My wife, "faithful" German shepherd, and I often took to the trail on Sunday afternoons for a bit of exercise. Walking through the dappled light and emerging at the top of the hill to watch the children on the playground is one of my fond memories of Kershaw and of Stevens Park."
